Lampifier Microphone Model 111(b)
Lampifier Microphone Model 111(b)
The Lampifier Model 111 Professional Microphone is a rugged, high performance, phantom powered, large diaphram cardioid mic with a patented, fully analog, transparent dynamic reduction system built in.
The Lampifier 111(b) is the latest and greatest of the Lampifier microphone lineup! A redesigned circuit board gives an even smoother, crystal-clear sound.

Why dynamic reduction? Live sound always has too much dynamic range for ideal sound reinforcement. The on-board, fully analog circuitry inside every Lampifier microphone reduces this range naturally and transparently, rendering dynamics in a more ideal range. But it does so in an entirely different manner than conventional compressors.
Compression and limiting is almost exclusively "top down" which singers generally can't stand! This is because singing through such compression tends to cause singers to push overly hard to get even a bit of the intended dynamics out, and in the process, blow out their voice. So in typical live settings, the signal remains uncompressed, which causes a different problem: Quiet vocals get buried in the stage mix, while loud bit are overemphasized.
The Lampifier circuitry solves this problem ingeniously. Unlike standard compressors, Lampifier's unique compression technology reduces harsh plosives and pushes up light breathy nuances from BOTH directions (up and down) without "crushing" dynamics entirely. So singers can still feel and work with their normal dynamic range and the mic remains dynamically responsive, yet at the same time it actually delivers the levels more within the ideal live range. So singers love it... they can hear both dynamics and nuance... and don't get lost in the stage volume in softer passages.
Can you get the same thing out of other mics? Well, sort of... with a good soundman and a rack of expensive processing. But now you are reliant on the soundman to get it just right. (And let's face it... how often does that really happen?) With the Lampifier mic, it's "set it and forget it." Just plug it in and done! Lampifier's built in self adjusting dynamic circuitry renders any comparison between this mic and others just unfair. There is no comparison!
In addition, the fully analog Lampifier circuitry is basically a high end opto circuit also the lines of the sweet, sought after vintage compressors of days gone by. So it's ultra smooth and warm, with no digital conversion noise or coloration. The sound is real.
Make no mistake; It's a game changer! However, be aware that while the dynamic range reduction is significant, it sounds subtle because it's transparent, without the common artifacts of standard compression technology. So you may not even notice it, apart from the fact that it just "sounds better." And that's exactly what it's supposed to do! Let the mic bring out your best so you can do what you do best... become one with the music!
Finally, built in noise gating, along with a cardioid pickup pattern, offers significant feedback rejection. And as both the noise gate and the dynamic compression levels are user adjustable (by altering jumpers inside the mic handle), the mic can be customized to your use and volume environment. But alteration is generally unnecessary as the circuit is quite forgiving and largely self adjusting--a result of the compression ratio changing automatically based on input signal level.

This microphone allows a singer to be honest with dynamics in a live setting. What’s more important than honesty?

I have been using the Lampifier mic and have been very pleased with the performance! I have used it on shows where other artists shared the mic with me during the evening. Everyone who has sung on it says that they love it! I also used it to record vocals in a vocal session I am producing using ProTools and it even sounded great in that environment! I recommend them highly!!

Just to let you know, received the mic last week and used it first time in our gig on Friday. Sounded great! I actually reprogrammed it from the Global to the Pro Vocal setting, and was bit nervous doing it straight away but easier than I thought. You could tell the difference in the output straight away as was much louder than my SM58 at the same setting. This better as can turn the output down on the desk so as not pushing the limits, presume this is the main reason its set up this way..? The review you have on the website (Audi Technology, Australia) was pretty spot on as well as the sound is much clearer than the SM58 and the compression does seem to make it easier to sing thro’. Only downside (as the review said) is slightly higher handling noise, not an issue for me as I play guitar as well so use a mic stand. Also the packaging could be better ie; leatherette wallet a bit cheap....no big deal though. Must admit a was a bit sceptical buying from the UK as no distribution over here and no one I knew had heard of it. But this said, so far I'm glad I took the plunge and reckon I'll be getting a few more enquiries from over this side of the pond ! :)
